Multiple Teams · Midland Dow tailback Caleb Richard, coach Jason Watkins earn Associated Press Division 1-2 all-state honors

SAGINAW, MI — Midland Dow senior Caleb Richard was named The Saginaw News Offensive Player of the Year and has added a spot on the Associated Press Division 1-2 All-State Football Team.

Richard, a 5-foot-11, 198-pound tailback, was joined on the team by his coach, Jason Watkins, who led Dow to its first undefeated regular season since 1976.

Richard was named the Saginaw Valley League Blue Division  Most Valuable Player after running for 1,097 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 42 passes for 944 yards and nine touchdowns.

Under Watkins, the Chargers led the Saginaw Valley League in passing yardage and offense.

Dow quarterback Alec Marty earned Special Mention, with two or more votes. Birmingham Brother Rice’s Alex Malzone was named the Division 1-2 Player of the Year.

Midland Dow receiver Mike Robb and Midland High back Luke DeLong earned honorable mention.
