Despite a big game from Dow High’s Mike Robb, the Chargers fell to Flint Southwestern 64-60 in nonleague boys’ basketball on Friday.
Robb racked up 20 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Southwestern’s Ivan Warren scored 23 of his 31 points in the first half to stake the Knights to a 38-31 lead at halftime, and they led 47-39 going into the final period.
The Chargers (1-5) cut the lead to three midway through the fourth quarter, but the Knights were able to put the game away at the line, making 17 of 26 free throws for the game.
“I was pleased with the effort and the intensity,” said Dow coach Mark Dickerson. “We only had 11 turnovers against their pressure, and I was worried about that (before the game). … The team is learning, and tonight is something we can build on.”
Zac Chichester scored 17 points for the Chargers, and Trevor Davis had 15 points, six assists, and six steals.
Dow visits Alpena on Monday.
Southwestern won the junior varsity game, 79-43. Ben Zeitler scored 23 points for Dow. The Knights won the freshman game, 73-68. Isaac Moolenaar scored 25 points and Zack Coon scored 20 for Dow.
