AUBURN — Ellie Taylor scored 18 points and Kaylee Wasco added 14 points and 13 rebounds as No. 7 Dow shut down host Bay City Western 68-42 in Saginaw Valley League North girls’ basketball on Friday night.
The Chargers built a 30-6 lead at halftime and led 52-17 after three quarters. Western eventually cut into the Dow lead in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Chargers 25-16.
“It was good to come out and play with intensity. It was a good bounce- back win,” said Chargers’ coach Kyle Theisen, whose team was coming off a loss to No. 1 Saginaw Heritage on Tuesday.
“In the first half, we were looking to push our pace,” Theisen added. “Everybody was knocking down shots. We’re an extremely good passing team, and we were moving the ball quick and sharing the ball well.”
Ellie Taylor also had eight rebounds for Dow, and Maizie Taylor and Alexie Flaminio had four assists each.
Dow (9-3 , 7-1 SVL North) plays next Friday at Saginaw Arthur Hill.
McKenna Walker scored 14 points and Sydney Nesbitt added 11 points for the Warriors.
“We just had a horrific night in the first half shooting the ball,” said Western coach Tim Walker. “Dow) played good defense. We had a lot of shots rim out. We had to work really hard for everything.”
Western (7-5, 2-5 SVL North) hosts Midland High next Friday.
Western won the junior varsity game 25-24 on Thursday.
Dow won the freshman game 67-18.
