The Chargers opened the season with a loss to a gritty Beaverton basketball team on Monday night. While Dow had plenty of opporunity to put points on the board with 55 shot attempts, only 15 of those shots put points on the board. Coach Dickerson was pleased with the shot selection but disappointed in the outcome. “We have to convert those shots to points on the board. You don’t win games by taking more shots than your opponent. You have to make more shots!” Jacob Stone led the scoring for Dow with 16 points, while Zac Chichester chipped in 11.
On the defensive side of the court the Chargers found themselves in foul trouble all night long. Beaverton took advantage of the 29 fouls called against Dow to convert 30 out of 40 free throw attempts on the night. This proved to be the difference in the game as the Beavers only scored 14 points on initial field goal attempts and 12 points off second chance shots. Mason Oldani led the way for the Beavers scoring 15 of his game high 21 points from the free throw line.
The Chargers head to Bay City Central on Tuesday.
